Great beach spot for snorkeling and a picnic. Saw a huge sea turtle and a great black sand beach (small). Surfers doing their thing while we dined on Vernas food was a great ending to our day in Hilo… Full review by Janna B

I can't answer as to how far from the cruise port in Hilo. We saw it the first time on the ships excursion to the volcano. It was art of the island tour. The second time we had a car and …

I can't answer as to how far from the cruise port in Hilo. We saw it the first time on the ships excursion to the volcano. It was art of the island tour. The second time we had a car and drove there. It is close to the town of Hilo. The black sand beaches there are very small. Just a few yards long. It is rocky with black volcanic formations. But you can swim in the very tiny black sand section.

Folks bring their own without any hastle. Pick one up at the nearby Walmart. I did not notice any public barbie stuff.

I agree with the first two answers above. You don't need to worry about a tour bus, the local bus does run there, but not on Sundays. Just look up the bus schedule online. Or when …

I agree with the first two answers above. You don't need to worry about a tour bus, the local bus does run there, but not on Sundays. Just look up the bus schedule online. Or when you get to Hilo you can call the bus company directly, or if you are staying in Hilo to speak with someone at your hotel's front desk.
