Texas legislature likely to advance new congressional maps after Democrats return to make quorum
AUSTIN, Texas — For the first time in two weeks, a quorum was met in the Texas House after many Democrats returned to Austin. That allowed the legislature to advance a bill to redraw maps that will likely affect Houston’s representation in Congress. Democratic leaders said they believe their quorum break was a success.
Democratic lawmakers in Texas returned to the state on Monday, ending a two-week walkout that broke quorum and temporarily blocked Republican efforts to redraw congressional maps at the behest of U.S.
CHICAGO (WLS) -- Democratic lawmakers from Texas just arrived at O'Hare Monday to head back to the Lone Star State. The legislators have been in Illinois for two weeks, protesting congressional redistricting in their state. Some of those lawmakers were in church Sunday at Saint Sabina and Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago.
Republican leaders said that if they can't reach a quorum again at 10 a.m., both the House and Senate will wrap up the special session.
