Yankees turn Cardinals’ woeful defense into ugly win to complete sweep, gain ground in AL East
The Yankees broke a tie game in the top of the ninth by scoring four runs on only one hit, lifting them to an 8-4 win over the Cardinals that finished off a sweep at Busch Stadium. With the help of two errors by Cardinals second baseman Thomas Saggese, the Yankees (67-57) rallied for their fifth win in the past six games.
This game, and this series for that matter, had a little bit of everything in it. There were highs, there were lows, and everything in between. But the end result of was bitter disappointment. Miles Mikolas took the ball for the Cardinals and allowed three runs in the top of the fourth.
Two errors in the ninth inning Sunday led to an 8-4 loss and continued a five-game losing streak that has tested the Cardinals' shorthanded lineup, inexperienced roster.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Cardinals third baseman Nolan Gorman hammered a home run that landed in the crowd behind the right field wall.
