The Shomari Figures win on Tuesday might still play a pivotal role in the House majority, which might not be determined until later this week.

With the victory by Shomari Figures, Alabama will most likely have two Black representatives in Congress at the same time for the first time in its history.

The United States Congress currently has a slim Republican majority of 220 representatives, with Democrats having 212. There are currently three vacancies. Every competitive House race has a chance at flipping the majority for the next two years.

Alabama has elected Democrat Shomari Figures to represent Alabama's redrawn 2nd Congressional District, making him the first Black American elected to the seat, according to incomplete, unofficial results. With about 96% of the votes in, Figures had 156,622 votes compared to 130,568 for his Republican opponent, Caroleene Dobson.

President-elect Donald Trump's Republican Party will control both houses of Congress when he takes office in January, Decision Desk HQ projected on Monday, enabling him to push an agenda of slashing taxes and shrinking the federal government.

In North Carolina, Republicans managed to flip three congressional seats from Democrat to Republican. This success was partly due to redrawn district maps.
