As conservatives try to change how history is taught in our schools, here are some Black history facts you should know.

From trailblazers to inventors, Olympians, and politicians, numerous Black historical figures have left their marks on American history for decades. Unfortunately, a lot of their accomplishments are unsung and under-acknowledged.

Black History Month started as "Negro History Week" in February 1926 as a way to chronicle the accomplishments of African Americans in the aftermath of slavery.

Also omitted is Indigenous Peoples Month, Hispanic Heritage Month and Holocaust Remembrance Day, according to social media users and product experts.

Some facts about Black History Month have been well-established: Carter G. Woodson was a member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity. His frat created Negro History and Literature Week in 1924. Woodson sent out a press release to announce the first Negro History Week.

Google's removal of certain holidays and cultural events from the default settings on Google Calendar has gained more attention this month, even though the company said the moves took place last year.

Google Calendar has removed Black History Month and public holidays, along with other cultural events. Neighbors believe this could be the first step toward erasing African American heritage.
