The 3,007-acre lake opened to fishing in 2010. While we caught a few bass that hot day in July 2010, we caught at least 100 crappie, fishing beneath a bridge.

• Paul Neighbours Jr. on Old Hickory and Percy Priest: The crappie fishing is hot on Old Hickory right now. Black/chartreuse and purple/chartreuse are the go-to colors in 4-10 feet of water.

Word from the fishing grapevine was that crappie were going gangbusters in the Pine Creek arm of Beaver Lake, south of Hickory Creek park.
