Mufasa: The Lion King uses a unique framing device to tell its prequel story, something that makes a remake of The Lion King 1 1/2 an issue.

The 1994 flick has spawned two sequels —"The Lion King II: Simba's Pride" in 1998 and "The Lion King 1 1/2" in 2004. Both of these spinoffs are available to stream on Disney+.

Several outlets project “Mufasa: The Lion King” will gross $50 million this weekend, nearly a quarter of the opening weekend gross of its predecessor, “The Lion King” (2019).
