Florida’s conversion from a swing state to a red one became obvious after the 2022 election, when Ron DeSantis won in previously blue counties like Miami-Dade, Hillsborough, Duval, and Osceola on his way to a 19-point blowout over Democrat Charlie Crist in the race for governor.

Osceola County voters on Tuesday evening dashed any hopes the most optimistic Democrats in Florida held that this would be a salvageable night in the Sunshine State. While Joe Biden had carried the heavily Hispanic County by 14 percentage points in 2020, Donald Trump narrowly won the county on Tuesday night.

The Republican wave that swept across Florida in the 2024 election not only flipped Miami-Dade for the first time in 36 years, it also turned a number of previously blue counties red.
