The first atomic bomb explosion, code-named “Trinity,” occurred on this day in 1945, near Alamogordo, New Mexico, in the United States.
The first atomic bomb was tested 80 years ago at Trinity Site. However, most of us are not familiar with the Trinity Site explosion weeks earlier on May 7, 1945.
This oral history is adapted from Garrett M. Graff’s book “The Devil Reached Toward the Sky: An Oral History of the Making and Unleashing of the Atomic Bomb,” which published on Tuesday.
