The littoral combat ship USS Augusta was commissioned Saturday in Eastport, Maine, ahead of the long trip it will make to its first homeport, Naval Base San Diego.

The future USS Augusta will likely be commissioned in Maine. The Navy ship will be named after the state's capital. It will feature a trimaran hull to keep it stable at high speeds.

EASTPORT, Maine (WABI) - The USS Augusta will be commissioned in Eastport next month. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, September 30th.
