Three scientists working in Australia, Japan and the United States won the Nobel Prize in chemistry for their work in molecular architecture, the Nobel Foundation announced Wednesday.

Hungarian writer László Krasznahorkai has won the Nobel Prize in literature for work that upholds the power of art in the midst of “apocalyptic terror.”

The trio are credited with developing metal-organic frameworks that can be used to store toxic gases, catalyze chemical reactions, and capture carbon dioxide or water from the atmosphere.
