Japan forward Kyogo Furuhashi has joined Rennes from Celtic on a two-and-a-half-year deal, the French Ligue 1 club announced Monday.
Kyōgo Furuhashi is one of the most succesful Japanese footballers that made the jump to Europe. After playing in Vissel Kobe, he moved to Club Celtic F.C., the most succesful Scottish club (and one of the surprises in Champions League this season), where he became the top scorer of the club and won three Premierships titles and two Scottish Cups.
The 30-year-old Japanese ends a three-and-a-half year spell with the Scottish champions, where he scored 85 goals and won eight trophies. It is understood that Rennes have paid a fee of nearly £10 million for Furuhashi, who has signed a two-and-a-half year contract with the Bretons.
Jota spent one year with Al-Ittihad before an offseason move to Rennes, which has sold the Portuguese forward to Celtic for a reported 10 million euros ($10.5 million). Celtic got a reported 29 million ($30.5 million) selling him after his first spell in Glasgow.
Kvistgaarden has been a long-term target for the Hoops, having been linked back in the summer and last season, but the club are now looking to get a deal done for his services to replace Kyogo, who departed Celtic Park with 85 goals in 165 games in all competitions.
