Tom Butler, a Huntsville native with a long history in Alabama politics, announced that he will not seek re-election. Butler, who has served in both the Alabama House and Senate, will reflect on his career over four decades in the Alabama Legislature during a press conference Tuesday.

State Sen. Tom Butler, a Huntsville native, was a member of the House from 1982-1994. He was also a member of the Senate from 1994-2010 and has been a member again since 2018. Butler, who is 81, is holding a press conference to discuss his decision and reflect on his career.

In the upcoming municipal elections, community members will elect their next mayor, council members and other local representatives.

Montgomery attorney Caroleene Dobson says she is running for secretary of state in 2026. Dobson said Thursday her priorities if elected include election security, reducing fees and getting legislation passed that will enable statewide post-election audits.
