The Cleveland Browns strolled into Philadelphia to play the world champion Eagles in preseason Game 2 for both teams, and relied on defense instead of a young quarterback to secure a 22-13 win at Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday.

Browns cornerback Denzel Ward left practice with an apparent injury to his shoulder or right arm on Tuesday. The injury comes amidst a stellar training camp and less than a week after two strong days in joint practices against the Eagles had at least one teammate buzzing.

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski offered injury updates on both Shedeur Sanders and Kenny Pickett on Tuesday.

It was a very successful day for the Cleveland Browns ’ defense in their second preseason game. Without the starters, many of the depth players were able to get meaningful reps against the reigning Super Bowl champions.

The Browns enter Day 15 of training camp, coming off a travel week down in Philadelphia that featured two joint practices and a preseason game. During that preseason game, Cleveland won in a 22-13 outing in which QB Dillon Gabriel completed 72.

With Emerson out for the year, there will be plenty of pressure on Ward and his fellow cornerback, Greg Newsome, to perform. Newsome, a first-round pick out of Northwestern in 2021, missed four games a year ago, finishing the season with 27 tackles, an interception and five pass breakups.

On Tuesday, August 26, the rosters cut from 90 to 53. The Browns will have to decide whether to devote a fourth spot to a quarterback, at the expense of the other positions.
