Kalshi’s college transfer portal certifications test the limits of sports predictions, sparking opposition and questions about insiders.
Kalshi filed the necessary paperwork to begin taking bets this week on who will transfer, but as of Thursday no markets are available.
NCAA president Charlie Baker released a statement Thursday saying the NCAA is "vehemently opposed" to prediction market Kalshi's proposal to allow trading on whether college athletes will enter the transfer portal.
On Kalshi, anyone who bet on any of the “Architects of AI”—including Sam Altman, Elon Musk, Jensen Huang, Dario Amodei, Mark Zuckerberg, Lisa Su, and Demis Hassabis—still won the bet. Those who bet their products, however, did not.
Congressman Abe Hamadeh has shared his concerns with Kalshi’s partnership with CNN in a new letter addressed to CFTC acting chair Caroline D. Pham. Congressman Hamadeh cites threats to market integrity and calls the partnership “outright dangerous.”
