Lawyers for the state of Louisiana are asking a federal appeals court in New Orleans to immediately block a judge’s ruling ordering education officials to tell all local districts that a law requiring schools to post the Ten Commandments in classrooms is unconstitutional.

A new Louisiana law that requires the Ten Commandments to be displayed in every public classroom by Jan. 1 has been temporarily blocked after a federal judge granted a preliminary injunction on Tuesday.

The Louisiana House of Representatives voted Tuesday to eliminate the state’s $150 million tax incentive for film and TV production, as part of a broad package of measures to reduce the state income tax.

The film tax credit has helped attract big-budget companies like G Unit studios to Louisiana. Its owner, Curtis 50 Cent Jackson, has said the studio would create jobs and bring a significant economic boost to Shreveport.
