Magic: The Gathering is making a controversial choice with its Final Fantasy UB set, and it may eventually backfire.

"Each Commander deck for Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY tells the story of an individual game from the franchise, letting you relive playing FINAL FANTASY VI, FINAL FANTASY VII, FINAL FANTASY X, and FINAL FANTASY XIV in a brand-new way," the press release said.

The trailer features the MTG logo doing some impressive airbending, with the familiar sounds of the show’s original opening in the background. And the caption understood the assignment, as it begins with the well-known line “Long ago, the four nations lived in harmony, but everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked.”

Tarkir: Dragonstorm, perhaps the most metal name for a Magic: The Gathering expansion since Aether Revolt, arrives on April 11. As the name suggests, the new set returns to Tarkir, a dimensional plane where dragons live alongside five rival houses, each with their own ideologies and relationships to the chaotic and occasionally benevolent reptiles.

Lorwyn-Shadowmoor was originally two planes, with Lorwyn always covered in daylight and Shadowmoor with night. Over the course of the Magic meta-narrative, the two planes fused in
