WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department has opened an investigation into whether police officials in Washington, D.C., have falsified crime data, according to a person familiar with the probe who wasn’t authorized to publicly discuss an open investigation.

The Trump Justice Department is investigating whether Washington, DC’s Metropolitan Police Department manipulated crime data, according to two sources.

Trump claims violent crime in Washington is getting worse and has ordered a federal takeover of the city’s police department.

Personnel from West Virginia arrived Monday, with troops from South Carolina, Mississippi, Ohio, Tennessee and Louisiana expected to arrive Tuesday.
