Mason Howell completed a dominant performance in the U.S. Amateur on Sunday by becoming the youngest winner in 17 years and third youngest in history.

Teenage sensation Mason Howell was crowned the 125th US Amateur champion after a crushing 7&6 victory over Jackson Herrington in the final at The Olympic Club in San Francisco.

With the victory, Howell, a rising high school senior and verbal commit to Georgia, became the third youngest winner in the 125 editions of the U.S. Amateur, taking over a spot previously held by Tiger Woods.

Herrington became just the seventh Tennessean to make it to the finals of the U.S. Amateur. Hillman Robbins (1957), David Gossett (1999) and Steven Fox (2012) walked away with victories, while Danny Green (1989), Luke List (2004) and Casey Whittenburg (2003) finished as runner-up.

For most high school seniors, the final summer before graduation is spent preparing for college applications or enjoying the last days of carefree youth. For Mason Howell of Thomasville, Georgia, it ended with a moment that etched his name in golf history.
