An active weather pattern kicks off the week in Colorado, with scattered thunderstorms today and Monday, followed by a dramatic shift to intense midweek heat.

We are ending the weekend with plenty of sunshine and warmth. High temperatures are anticipated to reach 94 degrees Sunday with the heat index pushing 100 degrees. A Heat Advisory has been issued and is in place until 8 p.

Mostly sunny this morning, then new storms this afternoon. Especially east of El Paso and Pueblo Counties, these could be strong to severe with hail and wind. Another surge of moisture this evening could create a strong or even severe storm near Colorado Springs.

Possible heavy rain

Tropical Storm Chantal is expected to produce heavy rainfall across portions of the coastal plain of the Carolinas through Monday. Storm total rainfall of 2 to 4 inches, with local amounts up to 6 inches, is expected. This rainfall will result in an elevated risk for flash flooding.

After Tropical Storm Chantal made landfall, the deepest moisture and heaviest rain is forecast to track across eastern Virginia, southern Maryland and Delaware. This is a zone to watch for potential flooding on Monday.
