The beautiful, wild coast of Katmai National Park. So many people think of Brooks Camp and the bear cam when they hear of Katmai, but the park and preserve comprises 4 million acres. It’s interesting to observe how well the coastal brown bears have adapted to their marine environment. They dig clams at low tide, eat barnacles off of rocks, and munch on sedge grass that grow in tidal zones. Some have learned to swim offshore to bird rookeries where they can dine on eggs and young chicks.
