Vernal pools are ephemeral and changing by nature. They fill up with snow melt, completely dry up in the summer, then fill up again with freezing grounds and snow. In that time, amphibians, reptiles, and invertebrates utilize these fish less pools to breed and as a nursery, and many of our upland forest species rely on that success.
